I’ve been playing Duty & Beyond for the past few days and I have to say that it is BRILLIANT!
You are Piet, a pizza delivery guy and you have just been sent to a mansion to deliver a pizza (obviously), however when you knock on the door nobody answers, after managing to get into the house you discover a note from your customer which basically sends you on a very long winded adventure to find your customer. It’s not long before you start running into co-workers, they’re also there to deliver a pizza to their customer (did the customer order the same topping for all the pizzas?)
One thing that surprised me was the amount of dedication Piet has for his job, maybe I’m just extremely lazy but I probably wouldn’t bother with even breaking into the mansion let alone doing all the things that Piet does…but of course it’s called an adventure game for a reason…characters with a bizarre amount of dedication are not that uncommon.
The inventory in this game is HUGE, which is really cool. I personally suggest trying to pick up anything and everything that is small enough to fit in your inventory as it will all come in handy over time.
One cool thing about D&B is the way you get teleported to different places, it kind of keeps the game from becoming stale as you don’t really know where you’ll wind up next. I personally liked the little village+forest.
The part of the game where you have to control a submarine is probably one of the worst parts of this game as it is very hard to make it go to the place where you want it to go, I was very glad when I finished that section…
The other thing that really let this game down was the ending…I think the same ending on a TV show I was watching awhile back only it was funnier…and I didn’t have to spend an age on trying to finish the game.
I love the puzzles this game has to offer, they all have a certain element of difficulty but were not so hard that they were unenjoyable. This game is really good if you want a longish game to play that challenges you but still makes it fun.
Before I give my ratings I hafta say that I am surprised that there was any pizza left to deliver considering the fact that Piet seems to eat an awful lot of it…perhaps it’s a never ending pizza.
GRAPHICS: 7.5/10 (they are not really that great but they grow on you after awhile)
RE-PLAY VALUE:7/10 (if you’re trying to get the highest possible score then you’ll probably play this at least twice)
PLOT: 6.5/10 (somewhat cliched but still kind of interesting)
ALL-IN-ALL: 8.5/10
